If anyone disses the health of the poker economy at the lower levels, you can now point them to ACRâs âThe Dreamâ - the microstakes tournament attracting a phenomenal 49,016 entries and breaking the $100k guarantee!
Many thought it was asking for trouble to run a $100k GTD, $2.50 buy-in event, but the numbers donât lie â the PKO close to reaching the magical 50k entries, with a final prizepool of $110,286.
ACR pro Chris Moneymaker, who famously turned a satellite into life-changing WSOP victory in 2003, said, âMy own experiences demonstrate the life-changing opportunities poker can provide, but rarely have those opportunities been available at such a low buy-in as they are with âThe Dream.â As the name implies, âThe Dreamâ epitomizes big poker at basement buy-ins.â
With 22 starting day 1s and the prospect of 1170 players hitting the paid spots, the winner of The Dream on Americas CardRoom was âCatchM3IfUKan,â pocketing $8,275 for the win and an additional $1,447 in bounties, bring his total to almost $10k.
Given the $2.50 buy-in, that works out at almost 4000x - not quite Moneymaker 30,000x (Chris turned an $86 sattie into $2.5million) but plenty good enough to celebrate.
Itâs not the only âdreamâ win this week for fans of ACR, with Mark âWeaselâ Rubbathan turning his online package win into a monster live win worth $396,000.
Along with the huge cash, Rubbathan bagged another $240,000 for the ten bounties he collected along the way!
