After winning the 2022 WSOP Main Event, Espen Jorstad will undoubtedly be receiving all kinds of invitations to play poker and make appearances.
The new $10 million man barely had time to model his new gold bracelet before the first of those invites arrived in the form of an offer to play in the $200K Coin Rivet Invitational.
The request came from Rob Yong, who will team up with Jorstad for the pro-am tournament that is scheduled for Sept. 10-12 and forms a portion of the Luxon Pay Mediterranean Poker Party at the brand new poker room of the Merit Royal Diamond in Cyprus.
The Coin Rivet Invitational, as part of the Triton Poker Series Cyprus, will consist of 32 two-player teams with each team fielding a rec and a pro. The event is capped at 64 players -- with each player buying in for $200K with one re-entry permitted -- and the first day will see the recreational players and professionals compete separately.
All players still standing are set to merge on Day 2. A prize pool of $20 million is projected, with $5 million for first place.
The line drawn between recs and pros is sometimes blurry, prompting event organizers to create a special committee to decide the category of players who may, perhaps, straddle the line. Jason Koon, Rob Yong and Paul Phua are among the committee members.
Teams Forming
The pro-am field has begun to take shape and includes teams of Phil Ivey and Paul Phua, Ben Lamb paired with Bobby Baldwin, and Steve O'Dwyer joining forces with Paul Newey.“The pairings of the recreational players with the professionals is generating interest in the community and the early confirmations for the event look encouraging – people are interested in who pairs up and which pairing might be considered the favourites to win,” stated Neil Barrett, Business Development Director of Luxon Pay.
The inaugural Luxon Pay MPP begins on August 19 with the $1,100 MPP Open featuring $1,000,000 guaranteed. The $5,300 Main Event runs from August 29 through September 3 and guarantees $5 million in prize money. The Triton Poker Series begins September 5 and concludes on September 19.
Players and fans unable to attend the Coin Rivet Invitational and Triton Poker Series Cyprus will be pleased to know that "all the action will be live streamed in true Triton Series style," said Triton CEO Andy Wong.
Luxon Pay is the go-to payment processor for poker players and allows buy-ins to tourneys and cash games at a number of poker sites and casinos worldwide. The e-wallet safely keeps players' entire bankroll in one place while permitting deposits, withdrawals, and transactions between players.
