Ali Imsirovic took down the penultimate event of the 2022 PokerGO Cup, scooping the $365,500 top prize and setting himself up for a tilt at the overall title...
The third of a trio of $25k buy-in events brought 26 players to the tables at the PokerGO Studio in Vegas’ Aria Hotel and Casino, with 43 entries in total producing a $1,075,000 prizepool.
Seven players would get paid, but earlier winners this week, Sean Perry, Nick Petrangelo and reigning PokerGO Cup champ, Daniel Negreanu, wouldn’t be among them.
Nor would Jason Koon, the highstakes star’s series so far producing zero cashes, and last night he would crash out on the bubble after a cooler that saw his queens run into Imsirovic’s kings. The day ended when Roger Sippl bust in 7th spot for $43k.
Back to the felt for day two, and it took almost an hour for the first final table casualty to appear, Darren Elias losing a race to Imsirovic...
Elias: 8♠8♣
Imsirovic: Kâ™ Qâ™
Flop: J♦ Q♦ 2♦
Turn: 4♥
River: 3♥
Imsirovic continued his march by taking out Cary Katz, while event 4 winner and leaderboard top dog, Jeremy Ausmus accounted for Nick Schulman in 4th spot.
Ausmus and Imsirovic clashed in what could have been a three-way all-in, the Bosnian’s ace-seven up against Ausmus’ big slick, with Sam Soverel getting out of the way by folding his own ace-seven.
Nevertheless, another seven appeared on the flop and that was enough to send Ausmus out in 3rd, another $160k plus change in the kitty and precious leaderboard points as well.
Heads-up between Imsirovic and Soverel ended when an innocuous-looking flop hit Ali hard, giving him trip deuces, and a turn ace giving Soverel two pair was enough for all the chips to go in, the title $365,500 going Imsirovic’s way.
2022 PokerGO Cup Event 7 Final table results:
1 | Ali Imsirovic | $365,500 |
2 | Sam Soverel | $236,500 |
3 | Jeremy Ausmus | $161,250 |
4 | Nick Schulman | $118,250 |
5 | Cary Katz | $86,000 |
6 | Darren Elias | $64,500 |
That leaves Ausmus way out in front in the PokerGO Cup leaderboard race with just the $50k buy-in finale to go, and he reached the final table of that one last night.
However, with Sean Perry, Daniel Negreanu and Brock Wilson all in the mix, it should prove to be a fascinating finale, and we’ll have all the best of the action for you in our next winner’s report!
