UK-based customers of PokerStars have escaped being affected by the new monthly deposit limit. Flutter Entertainment recently brought in the new measure as a part of its new affordability checks, but eventually decided to make the world’s biggest poker an exception.

Protecting Young Gamblers

The new rule, which is in effect across all of Flutter’s other subsidiaries, limits customers under the age of 25 to deposits of up to £500 per month. Paddy Power, Sky Bet, and Betfair will all be following this new protective measure.

Those who avoided this bullet maybe shouldn’t celebrate too hard because this might not be the end of the story. Online poker players follow a different pattern of deposits and withdrawals to traditional bookmakers and so might have been given temporary grace.

Poker, while still gambling, is thought to be less affected by harmful betting patterns. If further analysis indicates that this measure is so successful PokerStars may be brought under that umbrella after all.

Nevada Governor Praises WSOP

Steve Sisolak, governor of Nevada, has tweeted praise for the World Series of Poker organisers. He was encouraging the local community to go and get vaccinated to help the economy recover from the pandemic, and added thanks to the WSOP for helping to lead this drive.

While this is nice to hear, not everybody will be singing the praises of the WSOP organisers. There is still a storm in progress on many poker social media channels over the decision to mandate vaccines to be able to play. Many feel that this is overstepping the mark, even those who consider themselves pro-vaccine.

To be fair to those who had to make that decision, it now looks as if it was that or face having the event ruined embarrassingly when players who tested negative were forced to withdraw and isolate.

This would have made a mockery of the festival, likely leading many players to not travel to Las Vegas for later events once they saw what was happening.

New Jersey Gambling Market Firing on All Cylinders

Revenue figures for the New Jersey gambling market show that Atlantic City is almost back to its best after posting great results for July and August. $450.6 million and $426.7 million of gross revenue was collected respectively.

The state’s big earner, Borgata, earned $52.06 million in its property last month, all on its own. They also took top spot in the online sector with $37.3 million coming in; an 88.6% increase on the same month last year.

PokerStars Fails to Geolocate Players Using New Mac Computers

Some PokerStars customers in American ring-fenced regions have found themselves unable to grind after machines running the new M1 chip and the Big Sur OS conflicted with GeoComply and failed to disclose the user’s location.

GeoComply partners with regulated sites to ensure that all users are playing from within the region they claim to be.

Apparently this hiccup isn’t going to be fixed anytime soon.

“Our team is currently working on the newest release with the compatibility fix for M1 chip Mac devices. The release is expected during the next several months.”

The Cosmopolitan Casino up for Sale

The Cosmopolitan Casino on Las Vegas Boulevard is up for sale. Owners the Blackstone Group is asking for an eye-watering $5bn to take over the property; quite a bit more than the $1.73bn they paid in 2014.

Blackstone was on a bit of a run purchasing casinos on the Strip. They bought the Bellagio at the end of 2019 and both the Aria and MGM last year, but now look to be avoiding overexposure during what is still a difficult time for the casino industry around the world, for the most part.
