Canadian rapper Drake has lost $250,000 (£196,080) after betting on UFC legend Nate Diaz to win a boxing match against Jake Paul. This comes just months after he binned $400,000 backing Paul to get the win in a bout against Tommy Fury.
Hard-Fought Bout
Jake Paul emerged victorious over Nate Diaz by unanimous decision after a hard-fought encounter in Dallas. The judges scored the bout 97-92, 98-91, and 98-91 in favour of Paul, extending his career record to 7-1.The match went the full 10 rounds, marking the first time Paul has done so in his career. This was also Diaz's first official boxing bout after leaving the UFC in 2022, following a 15-year career.
Despite Paul's victory, Drake had previously stated, "Jake is a dog, but I can never bet against a Diaz brother".
Unfortunately for the rapper, his loyalty to the Diaz name proved costly, as he lost yet another huge stack of cash after placing the $250,000 bet on Diaz to win $1 million.
The rapper shared a photo of his betting ticket for the fight on his Instagram story, with the caption stating that he could never bet against a Diaz.
This is not the first time Drake has bet on a Jake Paul fight. Prior to the bout against Tommy Fury, Drake bet $400,000 that Paul would knock out the Brit, who ultimately won via split decision, costing the rapper dearly.
Drake has a terrible reputation for bets going wrong for big sums. The “Drake curse” is legendary. For a period, every sportsperson who was pictured with Drake prior to their event lost. In October 2022, Drake lost $684,000 on Barcelona to defeat Real Madrid in El Classico, and then another $2,000,000 after backing UFC star Israel Adesanya to beat Brazilian Alex Pereira.
