As the legalization of sports betting picks up steam throughout the US, it certainly comes as no surprise that new TV shows featuring the lives of bookies and bettors hit the screen as well.
Enter "How to Be a Bookie", a new sitcom in the works on HBO Max that's set to debut sometime later this year. Signing on for a recurring role in the situation comedy is Charlie Sheen, the former star of “Two and a Half Men."
Sheen is no stranger to the world of high stakes betting. In divorce papers filed by ex-wife Denise Richards, Sheen was said to have made a considerable amount of huge sports bets on a weekly basis.
Media reports indicate that "How to Be a Bookie" will star Sebastian Maniscalco as an L.A. bookie who faces a myriad of struggles in his everyday life. The proliferation of sports betting legalization and unstable clients top the list. Included in Maniscalco's troubles are his family, co-workers, and a manic lifestyle.
Of note is the fact that Chuck Lorre is creating the new sports betting show. Lorre was the co-creator and executive producer of “Two and a Half Men.” He and Sheen had a highly publicized falling out while the popular sitcom was in its heyday.
The bitter break-up resulted in Sheen's Charlie Harper character being axed from the show and replaced by Ashton Kutcher. Most viewers will agree that “Two and a Half Men” lost much of its appeal following Sheen's departure.
Eight episodes of "How to Be a Bookie" are in the making. While Sheen's role has yet to be clarified, it's a good bet that he'll play one of the lead actor's unstable clients.
