Bryn Kenney has agreed in principle to face Doug Polk in a match, but not the format originally suggested. Polk is only interested in deep stacked cash games while Kenney wants a faster-paced tournament format with the winner taking all.
$1 Million Winner-Takes-All
Bryn Kenney didn’t want anything to do with Doug Polk’s $500/$1,000 over 25,000 hands suggestion, but angled to get the community behind him by suggesting a $1 million winner-takes-all match where 20% goes to charity. After all, who doesn’t think that would be a nice bonus?Of course, everyone knows just why these negotiations have come to nought so far: Polk was once thought to be the best heads-up cash player on the planet, and Bryn Kenney has won more money from poker tournaments than any player in history. So don’t hold your breath if you think this match will happen any time soon.
Kenney has a point that a month-long match will never fit into his busy schedule, but that he’s still prepared to play to make something good out of all of this.
“I’m not gonna play a long match that takes me a month playing everyday, I can’t fit that into my schedule. What I can play is a 1 day match for high stakes. Let's give people a good show here.”
Polk, clearly seeing past the charity ruse, responded:
“Alright there ghandi, let's get this straight. I'm only playing you because you are hopeless and I will destroy you in any reasonable format. Otherwise you can carry on living a better existence without me.”
It doesn’t look like there’s any way that Kenney will convince Polk to play anything other than a cash game. Polk told him straight that he’s not rich enough to be flipping for a million dollars, which is fair enough.
It’s not clear why Kenney wouldn’t challenge Phil Hellmuth in the High Stakes Duel. He tried to bait the “Poker Brat” into a match in April of this year but annoyed him instead and nothing came of it. This is a match the poker fans would love to see.
