Brandon Adams has called an early end to his Galfond Challenge match. The American dropped close to $300k over the first four sessions and, unexpectedly, decided to call a halt to proceedings.
Is Phil Galfond the PLO G.O.A.T?
The match conditions dictated 10,000 hands of heads-up PLO were to be played at stakes of $100/$200 with a sidebet of $400k:$100k in play with Galfond risking the higher sum. After only 2,900 it was game over with Adams preferring to hand over $100k rather than risk losing millions if the match continued. Adams also lost $16,500 in a live PLO game at Resorts World in Las Vegas this month.
Can anybody beat Phil Galfond in a game of heads-up PLO?
It’s looking more unlikely as each match reaches a conclusion. VeniVidi had a damn good go, where Galfond clinched victory right at the death after being almost €1 million in the hole during the early going. After that, the Run it Once founder has simply destroyed everyone who dared to face him.
What about Dan “Jungleman “Cates? Now there’s a guy who knows all about heads-up PLO and has been at the top of the tree since the early days. We don’t know how well-versed he is in the latest PLO strategy because he is now an accomplished mixed games player, too, meaning less time to specialise.
As of today there is no scheduled date for the start of a match between Jungleman and Phil Galfond but there is no doubt this is the one that will have fans salivating the most. Unless, of course, somebody could rope Tom Dwan into the picture. Now that would be worth seeing.
