Andreas Froehli has stirred up a social media hornetâs nest after making allegations about a high stakes cheating ring on the PokerBros app. The Swiss PLO pro reckons the group is making âmillionsâ from colluding against unaware players in PLO games of $25/$50 and higher.
Is There Really Any Meaningful Evidence?
The poker community is normally quick to get on board when any kind of suspected cheating at poker comes to light, but in this case most were of the opinion that the claims lacked evidence. The hand above was Froehliâs only clue provided.
âAt 25/50 you are either a whale or a cheater if you take this spot,â Froehli says of the hand above. He adds: âIf âcopypasteâ wants to prove he didnât cheat, all he needs to do is post the HH.â
He says that this kind of collusion could easily be stopped but the people who can do this make too much money from the games.
PokerBros actually claims to have a 97.5% detection rate but many are unconvinced about the security of poker apps in general. Froehli thinks the same: âA lot of people are still missing the point. Yes, one can expect to get cheated on these apps & has to take responsibility. However, a ton of people still play there & when this happens, it's time to reveal the real names behind the cheaters, also on real online poker sites. They will cheat anywhere, also live. Jake & Ali are not enough!â
These accusations are not just limited to PokerBros, too. Froehli says the people who choose to risk these games are doing so while trying to balance game quality with security.
Regular online poker platforms have â100xâ the security of a poker app but, of course, the games are so much tougher.
PokerBros Ally Fires Back at Andreas Froehli
For a while, Andreas Froehli was preaching to his Twitter followers who were really in the picture, but then a PokerBros ally decided to ask some questions. An account named James Gregory opened his post by admitting he is a âshillâ for PokerBros, and then he asked Froehli to provide the hand history to corroborate his claims.
Interestingly, Froehli said that anyone who took the line in the hand he quoted is either a whale or a cheater.
Gregory wrote: âI have personally observed both of these players and have three of the usernames in this pic tagged as recreational, so I am extremely curious where this investigation leads.â
Froehli responded: âWe are definitely not the same - I have never received money from a pokersite for advertisement. You do have everything that you need, if copypaste wants to prove he didn't cheat, all he needs to do is post the HH.â
PokerBros Security Clears the Accused
Given how much of a storm was brewingâcheating accusations obviously tend to do thisâPokerBros were quick to react, getting the security team to conduct a thorough review of the players in question.James Gregory relayed the results.
As you can see in the tweet above, the suspicious betting patterns were common lines taken even when the nut blocker wasnât even dealt to another player, meaning that no warning could have been given.
The players were vindicated, with PokerBros security confirming it saw nothing but clean play.
âThree professional PLO players from the PokerBros security team took the time to review every lifetime hand these two players have played, and concluded collusion was not present anywhere between them. â
