Flush with $100,000 prize packages earned via competitions at Americas Cardroom, several of the poker site's Team Pros, as well as an ACR Stormer, made their way to Vietnam to take part in the Triton Super High Roller Series last March.
It was a High Stakes Adventure: Vietnam and it was all captured on film and condensed into a nearly 60-minute documentary now showing on YouTube. It's a must watch for poker fans and players of all skill levels, affording viewers more than a glimpse of the super high roller scene - both on the felt and off.
The documentary logs the journeys of ACR Team Pros Jon “apestyles” Van Fleet, Jeff "Boski" Sluzinski, Monika Zukowicz and Ana Marquez. Also featured is ACR Stormer Mark “Weazel” Rubbathan, who stormed his way to the title in the $20,000 no-limit hold'em Mystery Bounty event for $396,000.
Rubbathan took home an additional $240K in mystery bounty money and also landed in 10th place in a $15K buy-in event for $50,300. Prior to his high stakes adventure to Vietnam, Weazel's largest cash was for $14,280!
"No way this is real, man," Rubbathan said after getting his photo taken while holding his new trophy. "I gotta wake up."
It was all very real, as it was for the other ACR ambassadors, who were joined in Vietnam by Americas Cardroom honcho Phil Nagy. The ACR boss admitted that he's not very good at poker, but he was certainly relishing the successes and fun that his team was having at Triton.
Zukowicz and apestyles got plenty of screen time in the film, the latter meeting up with his father and step-mom, she being a native of the country. Monika managed to cash in the same tournament that Weazel won, avoiding the bubble for a score of $17,900 for 27th place, and grabbing a $20K mystery bounty to boot.
As for Marquez and Boski, they both final tabled a $25K turbo event. Ana landed 8th for $92,300 and Jeff one pay jump better for $121,000.
However, it's the behind-the-scenes footage of the Americas Cardroom ambassadors that may be the most entertaining portions of the documentary. Each player described exactly how they felt playing high stakes poker in a country with such a rich culture and beautiful scenery, totally appreciating the opportunity to rub elbows with the likes of Patrik Antonius, Fedor Holz and Stephen Chidwick.
In addition to the $100,000 prize packages earmarked for tournament buy-ins, the ACR gang also enjoyed their stay at a luxury hotel, airfare, and the kind of VIP treatment that super high rollers are accustomed to.
"At the end of the day, everybody should ride in a limousine once, everybody should fall in love once, and everybody should be treated like the biggest VIP in the world once," Nagy said. "Triton does that for everybody."
