ACR pro John “Drew” Gonzalez has taken down the $400 Thundering Threes at the Orleans Poker Room, Las Vegas. The popular Twitch streamer was taking in some of the off-Strip action during the WSOP 2021 and hit the jackpot at just the right time, giving himself a juicy boost to his bankroll before the series heats up down at the Rio All-Suite Hotel and Casino.
Perfect TimingThe North Carolina native is more of an online specialist than a live grinder. The ACR pro has won more than $1 million in the online arena but only shows $28,081 for his live record on the Hendon Mob website. This latest result almost tripled his live winnings overnight!
Thirst Lounge FameGonzalez really made his name as a streamer who was chosen to host Bill Perkins’ Thirst Lounge channel in 2019. Along with fellow ACR pro Ebony Kenney, Gonzalez was one of the Thirst Lounge 10 who used the opportunity as a platform to raise his profile through all the different challenges Perkins laid on.
Already established streamers Jeff Gross and Jaime Staples helped Perkins choose the 10 personalities, ensuring that they would be right for the job and make the project a roaring success.
It was through this success that ACR decided to come knocking before the season even finished. In an interview with HighStakesDB earlier this year, Gonzalez was asked how he landed that gig and he replied:
“I had started developing a deeper relationship with ACR back in 2019 when I was a part of Bill Perkins’ ThirstLounge 10 project. From there ACR and I kept in touch and we would work on future projects together until eventually we decided to put a ring on it and make it official. All of this made possible thanks to the Twitch platform where I have been a streamer for about 5 years now.”
Ebony Kenney is another of the ACR gang who has raised her profile over the last couple of years. A natural in front of the camera, she combines her role as a serious player with that of a brand ambassador who can be found making the cheekiest of posts on social media when the mood takes her.
This video from the Thirst Lounge shows her in a more serious setting, taking an interviewer role and having an in-depth chat with another of poker’s leading ladies, Jamie Kerstetter.
