Gamblers love to hear tales of massive wins in casinos. We all know that the casino wins in the long run but it still makes us feel good to see somebody stick it to them on occasion.

Some of the big wins reported from the past are truly eye-watering—life-changing doesn’t even come close except for the case of billionaires wagering huge sums like it doesn’t mean anything. Here are some of the biggest casino wins from years gone by.

Kerry Packer - $26 Million

Kerry Packer was an Australian media tycoon who was one of the most degenerate gamblers in history. With a fortune in excess of $5bn he could undoubtedly afford his losses, though.

One day, in 1995, Packer was enjoying himself at the blackjack tables in the MGM Grand casino playing for $500,000 per hand on several tables at once and took the house for $26 million in a matter of minutes. It was reported that he was banned from all MGM properties after this event but we are doubtful this would be true given some of his equally massive losses.

During a poker tournament at the Stratosphere Casino, Las Vegas, a Texan oil investor told Packer that he was worth $60 million, to which the unimpressed Packer offered to flip a coin for as much as AU$100 million.

He also reportedly lost £15 million in London playing blackjack in a single night.

Bryn Kenney - £16,890,509

Bryn Kenney tops the list for biggest poker win in history after making a deal heads-up against Aaron Zang in the Triton Million in London in 2019. Kenney had a five-to-one chip advantage and took home the bigger prize of £16,890,509 even though he ended up losing the playoff to Zang.

This prize—$20,537,187 at the time— pipped Antonio Esfandiari’s $18.3 million for winning the Big One for One Drop 2012 which is still the second largest ever prize for a poker tournament in history.

Don Johnson - $15 Million

Don Johnson is a former corporate executive who took on a second career as a blackjack hustler. Thought of as a bit of a degenerate by casino bosses, Johnson was invited to play for huge stakes at the end of the 2008-10 financial crisis and they soon regretted their decision.

Over a six-month period, John took three Atlantic City casinos for more than $15 million at the blackjack tables. He beat Tropicana out of nearly $6 million, Borgata out of $5 million, and Caesars out of $4 million before being told he was no longer welcome.

Tropicana and Borgata severely reduced the amount he could wager and Caesars stopped him playing altogether.

Anonymous Slot Machine Gambler - $39.7 Million

Details of the biggest ever slot machine win in history are sketchy but the Excalibur Hotel & Casino, Las Vegas, confirmed that one day an anonymous software engineer walked in the play slots with a $100 budget for the session and went home with $39.7 million.

This is more than double the $19 million that Jon Heywood won on the Mega Moolah jackpot only 25 minutes after opening his first ever online casino account.
