As part of a landmark agreement with Australia's Star Entertainment Group, the World Poker Tour (WPT) will host three events in Australia. It will be the WPT maiden stop to Sydney in 2022 and Australia's inaugural main-tour WPT event.

The Star Sydney will host the first of three new WPT events in Australia from March 30 to April 11, 2022, including a WPTDeepStacksTM series. The 13-day series will feature 12 WPT-branded tournaments, along with the WPTDeepStacksTM Sydney AUD$1,500 ($1,070) Main Event, which will take place from April 7-11. Star Sydney also provides magnificent five-star lodgings, Sydney's best restaurants, a range of high-end clubs, a first-class spa, and unparalleled entertainment.

On the calendar, there will be a $750 opening event, a two-day $2,000 event, and the $5,000 Challenge, to name a few highlights. Players should keep an eye out for more information on this year's WPTDeepStacks series. Last year, the same casino that held the Main Event drew a record-breaking 1,113 participants and awarded over $1 million in prizes.

The World Poker Tour will go further north along Australia's eastern coast at the end of the year. The Star Gold Coast will host the second and third WPT stops in Australia. Furthermore, there will be a WPT main-tour stop in Queensland. However, they have not announced exact dates because the stops must receive final regulatory permission from the state's gambling regulators.

Australia's most populated city is Sydney, but Melbourne has been the country's true poker haven for many years. Despite this, the country's most renowned series, the Aussie Millions, has been put on hold since early 2020. As a result of the WPT's willingness to step in as a notable tour partner, Star Entertainment has developed its significant poker initiatives.

Restrictions

Australian authority still forbids international tourists from entering the country for the time being, except for foreign laborers, skilled immigrants, and other exempt persons. Meanwhile, while live poker is now again available in Australia, players from outside the country will have to wait until travel restrictions are completely relaxed before they can participate in any events.

Only fully immunized players from New Zealand and Singapore have their access granted. While restrictions remain in Australia, things appear to be returning to normalcy this year.
