Shaun Deeb kicked off the PokerGO Tour’s Mixed Games series in style, winning event #1 for $208,800 after begging his wife to allow him to play!

The new series on the PGT schedule started with a $10k H.O.R.S.E tournament, attracting record-breaking 70 unique players among an eventual 87-entry field.

With 13 placed paid and more than $200k up top, first order of play was to survive the money bubble and unfortunately for Mike Gorodinsky he was the last to leave without a paycheck in the following Stud hand...

Gorodinsky: 7♣ 7♠ / 6♣ 8♣ 2♥ 10♥ / K♦
Livingston: A♣ 2♦ / A♠ 10♦ 5♥ 6♥ / 3♥

Daniel Negreanu was looking to make his mark after a rather disappointing, by his standards, PokerGO Cup last month, but he fell in 12th spot to David “ODB” Baker.

Day one ended with just five players left, Shaun Deeb leading the chip counts, followed closely by Baker, with Johannes Becker, Andrew Yeh, and Nick Guagenti all in the mix.

Yeh (5th for $69,600) and Becker (4th for $87,000) both fell in a round of Razz, then Guagenti was ousted in 3rd in a hand of Omaha eight-or-better by Deeb, leaving the 36-year-old, 5-times WSOP bracelet winner heads-up against Baker.

Baker initially closed Deeb’s 3:1 chip lead, but when he lost a big stud eight-or-better hand the writing was on the wall. The final hand in the same round saw Deeb scoop the pot and the title with his 8s and 5s...

Baker: 10♥ 6♣ / 3♦ K♠ 9♥ Q♦ / 10♣
Deeb: 6♦ 5♣ / 4♦ 8♥ 8♠ 5♦ / Q♥

The victory was, in fact, Deeb's first-ever cash inside the PokerGO Studio, and he spoke to PGT reporters afterwards.

“Great event, obviously,” Deeb said, adding: “Dealers and staff are awesome. I don't get to Vegas too often outside of the World Series of Poker. I was down in the Bahamas and my wife was nice enough to give me permission when I begged to also come to this series.

With a $25k bonus going to the overall leaderboard winner, Deeb explained: “The added money for the leaderboard, I knew some people who were doing side bets, so I said it's a good time to play some high buy-ins. I don't get to play that many cash games, and I loved mixed-game tournaments. I ran really good, and that's really important.”

The eight-tournament series continues today with the heads-up finale of the $10k 8-Game Mix between John Monette and Albert Daher, while the final table of the $10k Triple Stud Mix, featuring Eli Elezra, is also taking place.
