Rob Yong has shouted out to his followers on Twitter to ask for suggestions of suitable venues for the UK Poker Championships. The much-missed series hasn’t run since 2018 and the Dusk Till Dawn boss is now looking to revive it as the country moves fully away from the remaining COVID-19 restrictions.
Bringing Live Poker Back to the UK
Simon Trumper, Dusk Till Dawn’s director of live poker, has been tasked with creating a schedule for the mid-stakes tournament series that is expected to be well-supported after what will be 18 months with live poker in the UK pretty much on hold. The framework for the series is still completely up in the air with Yong expressing interest in working with any of the UK’s major operators to come up with something special. The last edition was a nine-day event held at Nottingham’s Dusk till Dawn with buy-ins ranging from a modest £220 up to £5,500 for the super high roller. So far, it is looking as if the tour stops will be £500 tournaments with a £1,000 grand finale held at Dusk Till Dawn.
Raring to Go!
Yong’s Twitter thread shows just how much enthusiasm there is among the UK’s live tournament players right now. The 18-month lay-off is unprecedented and it is exciting to think that the live game could see support at a level not seen for a few years when it all kicks off again. We look forward to seeing everyone battling across the felt once again and hopefully a new generation of poker players will get drawn into the scene as well.
