Phil Ivey has won his second title of the Triton Poker London series after emerging victorious in – $25,000 Short Deck Ante Only Turbo.
The American superstar now sits second in the second in the all-time Triton champions list with five wins, chasing Jason Koon who now has nine after winning another on the final day of the series.
The Final Day of a Great Series
Event #17 was one of the smallest tournaments we’ve seen in any Triton Poker series, attracting only 33 entries—15 of which were re-entries. The prize pool of $825,000 wasn’t much to get excited about for these guys but, to be honest, they’re all about the wins now and not the money, anyway.Phil Ivey found himself at a final table that included Daniel Dvoress and Stephen Chidwick, so he was never going to be taking things for granted, but in the end it was fellow four-time Triton winner Danny Tang that would be Ivey’s opponent for heads-up play.
In fact, after Paul Phua, Triton co-founder, bubbled in seventh place, It was Tang who led the way as the final table formed with a 2-1 chip advantage over Phil Ivey.
Three-handed, Ivey’s Q9 managed to outflop the AK of Stephen Chidwick and the Brit who had run deep in everything he played over the last fortnight without converting was heading home.
By now, the chips looked totally different to how they had a few hours ago. Ivey sat with 144 antes while Tang only had 21. Unsurprisingly, it was all over in a flash.
Speaking to Triton interviewer Ali Nejad after his win, Phil Ivey was asked what keeps bringing him back after he has achieved so much already:
“I love the game of poker, I always have. I love to play. Hopefully I’ll get a few more.”
