Mike Ruter and Samy Dighlawi have taken down WSOP Event #59: $1,000 Tag Team for $113,366 after defeating a field of 641 teams. The Americans had a tough road to lift the trophy, which culminated in a protracted three-hour battle against Israelis Tomer Wolf and David Landell.
Job Well Done
The Californian duo played this same event back in 2019 and literally lasted only an hour. It was this crushing defeat that made them immediately agree to come back the following year to seek out revenge and get some kind of result. It wasn’t easy. Team Wolf were pushing hard to become the second Israelis in a row to seize victory after Team Geiger’s win in 2019.
When it was time for the heads-up stage, Ruter and Dighlawi were tied for the lead but things started to go wrong very quickly. Dighlawi explained to PokerNews:
“He just kept smashing every board. Every single board he had a piece of it. Every c-bet I make, he calls, or floats, and hits the turn. For like literally an hour and a half straight.”
Their luck soon turned, though, and before long it was the Americans who were carrying a massive 12-1 chip advantage. Soon after seven-six shoved intoTeam Ruter’s queen-seven saw the end of the event and Mike Ruter and Samy Dighlawi picked up their first WSOP bracelets.
