Jean-Luc Adam has won WSOP Event #58: $1,000 Super Seniors No-Limit Hold'em, collecting the $255,623 top prize and his first bracelet.. The 69-year-old Frenchman bested a 1,893-entry field and was the only non-American to make the final table.

Super Seniors

The Super Seniors event is for players aged over 60 years and traditionally sees a healthy sized field every year. With almost two thousand players creating a $1,684,770 prize pool, it’s easy to see why many of the older generation still make the annual pilgrimage just to play this event.

Jean-Luc Adam isn’t just any poker player, though, he already has a WSOP Circuit ring to his name—just like his son who won one only the week after, back in 2019.

After winning, Adam told the awaiting media: “I’m dreaming. It’s very strange, a strange sensation. I felt good for all of the tournament and I felt very relaxed… I never think about first place, but only play every hand. It’s a very nice moment… I like to play for pleasure. I like to have emotion. It’s a very strange sensation for me because I don’t realize that it’s a world championship. It’s very unbelievable, I don’t understand now. It’s too soon, I just finished the tournament. I can’t realize exactly everything now. I am thinking first to my family. The most important thing to me is my family. My wife, my daughter, and my son… My son plays poker well. Very well. He taught me.”

Not to poke fun at those of a more advanced age, but a three-day event is likely to be extremely gruelling for them. It’s tough enough for the kids with hoodies and headphones, but we dread to think how exhausted the seniors will feel after it all ends.

The final day’s action saw 65 players return to the Rio Convention Center and after about seven hour’s play the final table was set. Jean-Luc Adam against eight Americans.

The final table was a relatively short-lived affair with players falling by the wayside almost as quick as a trail of dominos. When it was down to heads-up the players were reasonably well-stacked but the chips still went in quickly, and Adam was to be the 2021 Super Senior champion.
