Jason Koon has claimed his ninth Triton Poker title after taking down Triton Poker London Event #16 – $60,000 Short Deck Main Event for $828,000. The American further extended his lead for Triton wins with Phil Ivey chasing him with five of his own.

One of Those Days

Poker can be a cruel mistress, but she can also be kind occasionally, too. Jason Koon experienced a prime example when he found himself all-in with set under set in a huge pot, seemingly heading towards the door.

But lady luck smiled and a fourth nine came on the river, with Koon already up and walking, to crush the three kings of Tan Xuan. Koon commented that he couldn’t remember ever one-outering anybody in a tournament as long as he’d played the game.

Eventually, though, it came down to just him and Kiat Lee for the title. Koon explained later that he rates Lee as one of the best short deck players in the world, but he still thinks he has an edge.

“I played one of the best short deck players in the world heads-up. There was a three or four year span when I was off the grid playing the biggest short deck games in the world. I don’t think that it’s just pure luck I’ve won four short-deck titles.”

It’s been an incredible year for Jason Koon at the three Triton Poker Super High Roller events. In Vietnam, it was just him and Mikita Badziakouski sat on four titles as the most successful players. Now, Koon has an unbelievable nine. One in Asia, a couple more in Cyprus, and another brace in London.
