Jason Koon has taken down his eighth Triton Poker Super High Roller title, extending his record even further. The 37-year-old American won the $60,000 No-Limit Hold'em 7-Handed event in London, adding $1,570,000 to his career earnings total.
67 players bought in with 37 rebuys building a total prize pool of $6,240,000 to be distributed between the top 17 finishers.
Koon was clearly back in top form and must have been wondering what could have been at the 2023 World Series of Poker. Less than two months ago, Koon withdrew from the $250,000 Super High roller after his wife went into labour with their second child. Surely a massive opportunity missed, albeit for the best of reasons.
Is Jason Koon the Top Dog in the Live Tournament Arena?
There’s a lot of chatter doing the rounds right now about Jason Koon’s possible status as the best live tournament player in the world today. While Phil Ivey is often spoken of as the greatest of all time, the only other player in recent years who has been thought of as the current best is Stephen Chidwick. Even Michael Addamo’s amazing run didn’t win him as many plaudits from his peers.
So, is Jason Koon the man today? It’s obviously impossible to answer, but many think he might be.
He now sits level with Stephen Chidwick on the all time money list and only $2 million behind Daniel Negreanu in third place.
It’s worth mentioning that out of his $49,467,007 career total from live tournaments, $23.7 million of that has come from Triton events alone. This confirms that Koon is more than capable when it comes to playing in events that are stacked with elite level players.
