Jason Koon Bags Winner-Takes-All $500k PGT Championship Victory

Jason Koon won the 15-player shootout at the PokerGO Tour (PGT) Championship in Las Vegas, defeating Sean Winter heads-up to lift the trophy and bag the winner-takes-all $500,000 prize...

The season-ending PGT Championship was open to the top 21 players on the PGT leaderboard, essentially a freeroll with starting stacks based on the number of points accumulated throughout the year.

It was a field of stars, with Sam Greenwood, Alex Foxen, reigning WSOP champ Espen Jorstad, and Daniel Negreanu among the starting line-up, although none of them would make the final table.

Phil Ivey, Paul Phua and Daniel Dvoress were among the six no-shows, meaning 15 players were battling for one prize.

The six who made it through day 1 included English duo Stephen Chidwick and Benny Glaser, the latter fresh off a $2,830,000 runner-up spot at the WPT World Championship behind Eliot Hudon.

There was only one prize at the PGT Championship though, all eyes on the winner-takes-all $500k prize. Chad Eveslage bowed out first, flopping a flush at the worst possible moment...

Chidwick departed next, followed by his fellow countryman Glaser, with Sean Winter responsible for taking most of their chips and ensuring an all-USA podium.

Nick Petrangelo’s run ended in 3rd place, Winter’s pocket 6s again holding up, and that meant he and Koon were heads-up for the trophy and the money.

With Winter on a short stack, he had hopes of doubling up when he was all-in and dominating Koon...
