The first-ever Bratislava Poker Festival has ended a resounding success. Almost every player who passed through the doors of The Card Casino praised the casino's quality, and the welcoming atmosphere among both players and staff.
The festival saw every tournament guarantee surpassed with a total of €1,300,000 smashing the €1 million that was promised before the PartyPoker sponsored event kicked off.
The main event, the Bratislava Grand Prix, attracted 1,113 entries and generated a prize pool of over €540,000. Alex Dimogiorgis from Greece emerged as the winner, taking home a cool €102,000 after defeating Bruce Dillan Lee from Germany.
Although the Bratislava Grand Prix was sponsored by PartyPoker, the series was organised by Irish Poker Tour. As expected, a sizable Irish contingent arrived to support the festival with some of them doing very well.
There’s some argument over the bragging rights, though, because the top Irish-based performer was actually a Brazilian! Andrey Cruz, based in Galway, finished 18th in the Grand Prix and won €2,250.
Roy Walker achieved an amazing double win after smashing both the Friday Night Freezeout and the Omaha 7 Max on the final day, earning a total of €6,920.
Fintan Gavin secured fifth place in the Euro Omaha Championship, winning €10,240 for his efforts. The event was won by Bulgaria's Boris Angelov, who took home €40,000.
Irish Poker Tour regulars Manus O'Donnell, Ray Wheatley, Brian McCarthy, Mike 'Corky' Corcoran, and Johny McCullagh all cashed in one event or another but none of them managed to pick up a victory.
It was no surprise that this event was as successful as we saw. The team behind the Irish Poker Tour are famed for being able to pull it off every year in Dublin. In fact, they even have the Lúnasa Lunacy Festival scheduled in Dublin from August 25 through 27 and the Killarney Festival will be running from September 27 through October 1. Anyone fancying a trip to either of these events can check out the online satellites running daily with tour sponsors Paddy Power Poker.
It will also be no surprise to hear that PartyPoker will maintain its relationship with the Irish Poker Tour team for the inaugural Irish Poker Festival.
This highly-anticipated event will take place in Dublin and features a €1,000,000 guarantee, with a main event guarantee of €700,000. Satellites are currently running around the clock on PartyPoker for those who want to bag their seat at a cut down price.
