Fedor Holz has taken down his first Super High Roller live tournament since 2017 at the Triton Poker Super High Roller Series London. The 30-year-old German star won the $25,000 7-Handed No-Limit Hold'em event for $609,853.
Holz topped the 120-entry field after defeating Chris Brewer heads-up. The American was on a massive heater following a stellar performance at the 2023 WSOP but couldn’t pull off another victory in a major event.
Brewer won’t be too unhappy, though, because he and Holz agreed an ICM chop before the heads-up battle got underway, leaving him with $600,647, only a smidgen less than Holz’s share.
Quietly Out of Retirement?
Fedor Holz really made his name during an amazing run in 2016 that saw him bank $16 million from live tournaments alone. 2017 was a decent year but it saw the then 24-year-old announce he was stepping away from the professional game. This was the last time we saw him winning the events we were accustomed to seeing him dominate. Now, though, we reckon he’s quietly on the way back into the big time full time after bagging more than $3 million in 2023 so far.
Ali Nejad, one of the Triton commentators, asked how he keeps motivated having achieved everything already in poker: “It’s really the competition and the love for the game. These moments! I’m sad when I bust out, not necessarily because I’m missing out on the money but because I can’t continue playing. When it ends, there’s a little moment where you realise it’s over and you switch to real life again.”
