Espen Jørstad has taken down the $40,000 buy-in Mystery Bounty event at Triton Poker Super High Roller London for $639,000 plus bounties. The Norwegian Claimed his first title since winning last year’s WSOP Main Event and he did it in style, defeating two of the best in a thrilling three-way fight for the victory.
After winning the most high-profile poker tournament on the calendar, we could be forgiven for thinking that Espen Jørstad could never top that feeling as he cruised to a famous win. But imagine playing in a Triton event under the spotlight against Phil Ivey and Stephen Chidwick.
There’s a solid argument to be made for Ivey being the greatest of all time and Chidwick being currently the best NL Hold’em tournament player in the world. There is no other atmosphere in poker that could be more intimidating.
The tournament attracted 133 entries which built a prize pool of $2,660,000. Another $2,660,000 was placed into the bounties side of the event.
Jørstad said that the finale was the “craziest three-way” he’d ever experienced. All three players were bouncing between short stack to big stack repeatedly.
Eventually, though, somebody had to come unstuck and it was Stephen Chidwick who was heading to the rail after a confrontation with Jørstad.
Now, only Phil Ivey stood between the Norwegian and his first Triton title. No pressure eh?
“Playing heads up against Ivey, the biggest legend of the game in my opinion, just makes it even more special. I’m extremely grateful for all the run good I’ve had on the last three years. It’s insane.”
