The upcoming EPT Sochi has been postponed following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. The regular stop on the European Poker Tour calendar was scheduled from March 18 to 27 but is now pencilled for October 1 to 10.

Given the current political situation it is probably advisable not to be planning travel arrangements for these new dates too.

What about the Prize Packages?

There will be many players who no doubt won’t be planning on travelling to the Black Sea resort regardless of if the event runs or not. Many of these will have already registered or be in possession of one of PokerStars’ prize packages, usually worth a pretty penny.

Any affected players who wish to query what their options are can contact live@pokerstarslive.com for further advice.

This is the second time this event has been cancelled, the first obviously being due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Due to the global outcry over Russian president Vladimir Putin’s actions, it could be a long time before any major poker series are held in the country once again, regardless of how quickly the situation in Ukraine improves over the coming weeks.
