David Peters fought off a stacked final table to land his first cash of the 2021 US Poker Open series, a victory worth $217,800 that gives him a chance to repeat his overall Championship win from 2019...

A new record of 99 entries appeared for event 7 on the 12-tournament USPO schedule and by the time they reached day two and the final table of eight they were already well into the paid spots.

California’s Kristina Holst became the first female to reach a final table in this year’s series, but she would exit first yesterday, her fine run ended before the live stream began.

Dan Shak, who had bagged a runner-up spot in the opening event, was next to depart when he lost a race against Peters and then the Ohio-born pro who sits 7th on the all-time tournament moneywinners list KO’d Ivan Zufic in 6th spot.

Alex Foxen is a regular at the deep end of highroller tournaments but his bid for glory ended in 5th when his short-stack shove blind-on-blind ran into Jared Jaffee’s suited big slick.

Brock Wilson fell in 4th and was followed to the rail by Andrew Lichtenberger in 3rd, who pocketed the first 6-figure payout of the day, leaving Peters and Jaffee to battle for top honours.

A huge cooler saw Jaffee’s comeback halted when his trips lost out to a full house and it was all over soon afterwards, Jaffee commenting, “You always have it, huh?” when Peters showed down the better hand.

Peters pocketed $217,800 for the win and still has time to mount a leaderboard challenge to defend the USPO crown he won in 2019.
