David Peters stamped his authority on the US Poker Open by taking down his third victory in a week, bagging the $25k NLHE penultimate event for $465,750 that sees him leap to the top of the leaderboard race.
Peters had already won the seventh event, a $10k NLHE, and followed it up with victory in the 10th event, a $10k Short Deck, and had added another cash along the way.
Yesterday he was back for the finale of the $25k NO Limit Hold’em, the remaining six players well into the money with $100k guaranteed and familiar faces among the contenders.
Dan Shak was in the mix, as was Jake Daniels who won the opening event of the 12-tournament series. Vanessa Kade was also looking to cement her reputation as a serious pro at the highest levels having already final tabled this week.
The first KO saw Frank Funaro hit the rail courtesy of Ivan Zufic and then it was Kade’s turn to depart, the Canadian going from chip leader to 5th place finisher when a string of hands depleted her stack.
The ACR pro and ambassador lost a huge chunk of that in the following hand, David Peters’ tournament dreams at risk in the pre-flop all-in...
♣ ♠♦ ♥
Kade: 10♠10♦
Peters: A♥ Q♥
Flop: J♣ 9♠A♣
Turn: 4♣
River: 3♥
Peters ended Kade’s run a few hands later in an ace over ace battle, and then Jake Daniels fell in 4th with Peters again doing the honours.
Down to just three and Peters, Zufic and Shak traded blows and the lead but eventually the rising blinds played their role and Shak was ousted in 3rd for $224,250.
Heads-up was a quick affair, a one-hand fight that saw Peters picking up tens and Zufic nines, a ten on the turn and a river call from Zufic sealing his fate and giving Peters his US Poker Open hattrick.
