ShareDavid Peters landed his second title of the week at the prestigious US Poker Open by taking down the $10k Short Deck title for $124,200, defeating Ali Imsirovic heads-up as the pair battle for overall supremacy...
With only 27 entries it was the smallest field of the 12-event series by far, but the action was just as relentless if not more so in the 36-card variant.
The day 1 bubble burst when Daniel Negreanu saw his pocket kings rivered by Peters, the GGPoker ambassador quick to share the pain on Twitter...
...and Daniel called it a day when his $25k tournament ended short of the money: “My US Poker Open journey is complete. A 3rd, 10th, 5 bubblish busts Played 6 all in pots today and didn’t win any. Not an exaggeration. I’m playing great poker and the results will come. They always do.”
Negreanu may have left the building but Peters and the man at the top of the overall leaderboard, Ali Imsirovic, certainly hadn’t, with Peters disposing of Thomas Kysar and Imsirovic taking out Cary Katz to set the $10k Short Deck heads-up finale.
The pair fought it out for 90 minutes before Peters 10-Jack once again did the business after the young Bosnian-born pro bluffed the river and was picked off...

That gave Peters the win and $124,200 as well as some much-needed leaderboard points as he strives to catch Imsirovic in the race for the Golden Eagle trophy and an extra $50,000.

That task may be completed today as Peters has made the final table of the penultimate tournament, the $25k NLHE event 11, whereas Imsirovic has not.
The final six includes Dan Shak and Vanessa Kade, the latter already bagging her second payday of the series in only her 2nd-ever $25k buy-in event...
