Chad Norton has won a bracelet in his very first World Series of Poker tournament, Event #46: $800 No-Limit Hold'em Deepstack.
The American conquered a 2,053-entry field and collected a $214,830 top prize.
Unexpected to Say the Least
We think it’s fair to say that Chad Norton might have hoped for this result but almost certainly wouldn’t have been expecting it. His live tournament record consists of mostly $50 events, with only two four-figure cashes to show, almost all of the rest being less than $500.Norton has done incredibly well to top a field of this size, in an event that stretched over two days. Only 120 players lined up for Day 2, and by the time the final table was set Norton had climbed to third on the chip count. The stage was set.
When the action was three-handed Norton had a massive lead, holding more than half of the chips left in play. And then heads-up against Steve Lemma this became a 3:1 advantage.
The latter hands didn’t take much time to finish off and Norton was soon celebrating an unlikely victory.
Speaking to the media after his win, Norton said:
"In one of the final hands of Day 1 I lost pocket kings against ace-queen for 1.2 million. It would have been nice coming into today with a nice chip stack but instead I came in with 380k and fought my way back somehow. To be honest I've only played in one WPT event and this was my first ever live WSOP tournament. I play mostly online but I came in on such a downswing so to be able to come in and win my first ever WSOP tournament feels amazing."
