Anthony Denove has claimed victory in the WSOP Event #43: $1,000 Double Stack No-Limit Hold'em, winning his first WSOP bracelet. The cash game specialist added the $446,983 top prize to his bankroll after besting his 3,990 rivals for the biggest chunk of the $3,551,990 prize pool.
Career Best Day
Denove said that he’s been into nothing but cash games for the last six years but is now discovering a love for tournaments.“It’s been my dream to win a bracelet. I’ve been playing cash for six years but I do really love tournaments.”
As if outlasting a field of almost four thousand wasn’t difficult enough, the final table lineup was to be extraordinarily tough. Players with seven-figure live tournament records usually know what they’re doing and will make life hard.
PokerGO commentator Jeff Platt is also a decent player and would eventually finish fourth after fighting hard to try and claim his first win in a major event.
In the end it would be David Guay to challenge Anthony Denove for the spoils. Both players were looking for a career-defining win, but it was Guay who carried almost all of the tournament experience in the matchup.
After starting heads-up play almost even in chips, Denove started to pull away after half an hour, but then it all ended unexpectedly with a bang. Pocket nines running into pocket tens saw the chips go in and Guay didn’t get any help. It was all over and Denove was champion.
Denove said: “I knew a lot of those players would not be making any mistakes in a lot of spots,” he said when asked about the lineup. “I try not to be too conscious of it, helps keep my expectations in check.”
He added that he would be returning to play the main event next month once he had seen his family.
