The World Poker Tour (WPT) is returning to the Wynn Las Vegas for the next edition of the WPT World Championship after announcing a record-breaking guarantee of $40 million. This is not only bigger than any WPT event in history but also than any other live tournament, anywhere.
WPT World Championship Reaches New Heights
The WPT World Championship Festival is scheduled to run from November 29 to December 23 with the Championship event taking place December 12-20. Four starting flights will run giving players plenty of flexibility on the path to a televised final table.
The event is expected to draw a large and diverse crowd, including some of the world's best players and plenty of well-known celebrities. The 2022 WPT World Championship saw 2,960 entrants generate a $29,008,000 prize pool, nearly doubling the original guarantee. Canadian Eliot Hudon claimed the winners prize of $4,136,000.
Adam Pliska, WPT CEO, said:
“The WPT World Championship at Wynn Las Vegas is poised to reach new heights and we wanted to match that expectation with a guarantee that no live poker tournament has ever seen before. The journey to December begins now, and we plan on giving players another unforgettable experience at Wynn Las Vegas.”
More than 30 Supporting Events at WPT World Championship Festival
Alongside the WPT World Championship event, the schedule features more than 30 supporting tournaments with a wide range of buy-ins that cater for anyone who might be interested in attending.
The 2023 WPT Prime Championship also makes its return a year after Stephen Song won the lion’s share of the $5,267,100 prize pool. This year, the guarantee is $5,000,000 and we expect to see that number smashed when the event gets underway from December 7 through 12.
Another major event to look forward to is the $1 million buy-in Big One for One Drop where we will definitely see some of poker’s biggest stars battling for what will be a huge winners prize.
Seniors have also been taken care of this year with two events catering for players over the age of 50 with the $1,100 Seniors Championship and $10,000 Seniors High Roller.
Finally, the $2 million GTD Mystery Bounty should be one of those events that attracts every kind of player out of the woodwork. This style of tournament is rapidly growing in popularity with its lottery-style bounty handouts.
Ryan Beauregard, Executive Director of Poker Operations at Wynn Las Vegas, said:
“The astonishing support and excitement we’ve seen from the poker community after just one year is nothing like I’ve seen before. We look forward to the 2023 WPT World Championship and hosting another industry-leading event with an unparalleled player experience.”
