Taylor Swift may have teardrops on her guitar due to unrequited feelings for a high school crush, but there are no teardrops on her bank statement following a recent hook up with Crown Resorts.

Anti-gambling activists are apparently up in arms over the deal, citing Swift's massive influence over youngsters. The gambling buzzkillers are of the mind that Taylor's alliance with Crown will somehow drive teens to the ills of gambling.

To that line of thinking, Swift would likely say, shake it off.

Aussie Swifties will have the opportunity to see their idol in February 2024 for seven shows - three in Melbourne and four in Sydney. An additional show was added to each venue to accommodate high demand.

Swift's popularity is reportedly attractive to Crown as a way to brighten their somewhat sullied reputation. The Crown group recently paid a huge financial penalty - among the biggest ever for Australian corporations - following an agreement reached over misdeeds such as improper tax deductions and money laundering, according to the Sydney Morning Herald.

“This is an attempt to propagandise a music identity, a popular star, and to associate her with their brand,” said Monash University Associate Professor Charles Livingstone. “What that does in marketing in the public health context is about normalising their brand and making it seem like it’s something positive, supporting young people and music lovers."

Crown claims that the deal with Swift isn't aligned with gambling, but instead is focused entirely on the Crown Metropol hotel. The partnership allowed Crown to obtain a certain number of pre-sale tickets to Swift's concerts and to tie those in with various hotel packages.
