Landon Tice is back in the headlines once again with a $10k bet against Bill Perkins that the young pro can win a live WSOP gold bracelet at his first series – but yet again the odds on offer are questionable to say the least...

Tice and highstakes amateur Perkins fought out barely a quarter of their recent heads-up match before the youngster pulled the plug, the 9bb/100 Tice agreed to give his opponent apparently considered too much to overcome. That equated to a $720,000 headstart, and Perkins proved much better than expected.

“As a team we decided to surrender…he’s a much stronger player than expected and I took on more than I could handle,” is how Tice announced the end of that particular battle, but now his decision to give Perkins 8-1 on the WSOP bracelet bet has come under scrutiny.

As the results of his Twitter poll show, fully 73.6% believe he has agreed to yet another bad price, standing to win only $80,000 if he manages to secure one of the 40 or so bracelets up for grabs in No Limit Hold’em events.

The legendary 2003 Main Event champ, Chris Moneymaker, was among numerous stars of the game to comment…

…although being called Mr Moneymaker added a chunk of levity to Tice’s decidedly dubious deal-making…

“I’ll be alright Mr. Moneymaker – it’s my money this time; if I lose, I lose.”

“Mr Moneymaker. I am not that old damnit!”

Others also questioned Tice’s ability to get a deal that reflects the difficulty of winning a live bracelet on demand. Canadian poker queen Vanessa Kade commented: “This should be at least 20:1 and I think you’re really good.”

Randy Lew’s advice was taken on board: “You better play for the win at those FTs and skip icm! Gl” with Tice describing that scenario as “a great problem to have” should he make a final table.

With Tice stating multiple times that he’d be bankrolling his WSOP run himself, that would seem to discount some or all of the High Roller and Super High Roller events, where the much smaller fields would up his chances of bagging gold.

Tice, however, had other ideas and made Bill another offer…

Whether his WSOP bets turn out to be a good deal for Tice or not remains to be seen, but the clever money is on Bill Perkins' side!
