A Bitcoin conference in Miami, Florida looks set to host one of the biggest buy-in and most prestigious poker tournaments in history after a slew of the biggest names in the game put their names forward for a seat – Tony G and Dan “Jungleman” Cates among them...

The tournament is being organised by High Stakes Capital, a high-risk investment company, and is slated to run during BTC Miami – the cryptocurrency conference taking place from April 6th to 9th at the Miami Beach Convention Centre.

It didn’t take long for some of the world’s leading poker players to show an interest, with crypto-loving Antanas “Tony G” Guoga chief among them, though he had a wishlist of one important thing.

“Should ensure there is a committee and that no pure robot pros kill the great event,” tweeted Guoga.

The founder and owner of online crypto-poker room, CoinPoker, added: “Should be people who are real serious crypto investors only if it’s a crypto event.”

His plea was met by a simple question: “You’re in or you’re not?” and his reply was “I am in.”

Legendary sportsbettor and poker fanatic, Haralabos Voulgaris, mirrored Guoga’s view that the event would be better off without the big-name pros, tweeting: “Would play if it was a non pro event.”

However, several of the most-feared pros had already beat Tony G and “Haralabob” to the table, a list of interest best seen in bullet format.

Fedor Holz: “I'm up to play if there’s a seat.”

The German phenom, who is now semi-retired, is among those who have already taken part and won big in a $1million buy-in tournament, his career-best score of $6million coming as runner-up in the Big One for One Drop at the 2018 WSOP.

Justin Bonomo: “Count me in!”

The man who beat Holz heads-up for that win – and a $10million payday – is also very interested in playing the BTC Miami event, and he’ll certainly have no trouble finding the $1million buy-in.

Bonomo recently retook top spot in the all-time tournament moneywinner standings with a $4million sun-run in the second half of 2021.

Chris Brewer: “Would love to play.”

Brewer is a new face at the highest stakes, having gone from $5 buy-in home games to playing with the world’s best in just 8 years. A highstakes cash game player, Brewer has also shown he can compete with the best tournament players in the world, $3million in winnings since December 2020 to his name.

Dan Jungleman Cates: “Yep.”

No-one is ever sure quite what Jungleman Dan is replying to at the best of times, but the legendary highstakes pro would be an amazing addition to the field.

The fan favourite showed he still has what it takes at this year’s WSOP when he bagged the prestigious $50k buy-in Poker Players Championship for close to the $1million he’ll need for Miami.

Jason Koon: “I’ll play.”

Koon is considered to be one of the best NLHE players on the planet and for good reason. Big buy-in events hold no fear for the GGPoker and Triton ambassador, and 8 seven-figure scores shows he’s also pretty damned good at them.

Dan Smith: “I donate 20% of my income to, and run, a charity called double up drive, which has raised over $18 million. Would love to play and promise a chunk of money would go to a good cause.”

Dan “Cowboy” Smith is an ever-present at the highest stakes tournaments, and he has paid more than $1million for a poker buy-in before.

Like many of the top pros, he played the 2019 Triton Million for Charity event in London, where the buy-in was £1million – equal to $1.27million at the time.

Unlike many of those who took part, however, Smith cashed – his 3rd place finish worth a monster £7.2million ($8.765million).

It’s likely that many more players will sign up for the BTC Miami poker event, and we’ll keep you posted on all the latest from what is likely to be the biggest cryptopoker-based event in the history of the game.
