Garrett Adelstein has given a rare interview on the Doug Polk Podcast, talking about all of the recent contentious topics that have been happening in the poker world connected to him. The pair knuckle down and discuss everything from Robbi Jade Lew to why Adelstein can’t Nik Airball, with much more.
Cutthroat Politics
Before Garrett Adelstein gets into the nitty gritty of what the viewers were wanting to hear, he opens up about how he has been feeling during the past six months while his career has been on hiatus. He starts off by saying that the intense focus on him during the aftermath of the Hustler Casino Live cheating scandal led to feeling not dissimilar to post-traumatic stress disorder. A clear indication that he was struggling to deal with the abuse fired in his direction.
He describes the politics in the world of high stakes poker as “cutthroat” and explains that he has found it tough to see how many people suddenly showed an intense dislike for him after a career as one of the most popular players on the scene.
The conversation then moves onto the recent mutual badmouthing with Nik Airball. Seemingly out of the blue, Adelstein posted a tweet calling Airball a terrible poker player and an even worse human being.
It turns out that this all started with Airball’s attempts to rile Adelstein with trash talk at the table which he thought went too far and crossed the line of being respectful. He claims that Airball is doing nothing but putting on a fake persona in order to gain notoriety in the world of poker, making him a perfect candidate to receive invitations for livestreams.
Garrett Adelstein Confident He Was Cheated
Next up was a chat about the infamous J4 hand against Robbi Jade Lew. What was Adelstein’s opinion six months on? Actually it’s just the same and, if anything has changed, his opinion is even firmer than before.Adelstein says he still stands by everything he wrote in his detailed post on 2+2 at the time. He also talks about how he has observed Lew playing on other live streams in the last six months and claims that her style has changed beyond recognition from what we saw on Hustler Casino Live last year.
“In essence, I stand completely by the statement I made. I think it’s extremely likely that I was cheated."
He didn’t mean that the decisions were any more sophisticated, but rather she had reverted to making decisions more congruent with her level of experience. Polk also revealed that his opinion still leans towards that some form of cheating did happen in the J4 hand.
The interview ends with an explanation over how live stream line-ups are put together and how Garrett Adelstein has helped to construct them in the past but was not responsible for banning people. The pair also have a brief chat about Matt Berkey and delve into some of the criticism he has faced.
