Daniel Negreanu has told Phil Hellmuth to stop dissing the modern-day GTO kids, claiming the Poker Brat âstill doesnât know what the hell it isâ and that the 15-time WSOP bracelet winner has no chance against him in their upcoming match.
Despite being good friends, the pair have crossed swords recently a number of times following DNegs losing his heads-up Grudge Match to Doug Polk. That $1.2million defeat had Hellmuth publicly picking holes in the GGPoker ambassadorâs game, leading to a challenge from Daniel that seems to have been accepted.
However, if Hellmuth thinks he has an edge in any battle with Negreanu, his friend and soon-to-be-foe has other ideas about Philâs skill level.
Although admitting Hellmuth is very good at what he does, Negreanuâs recent delve into GTO for his Polk battle has left him cold about Philâs style.
âObviously, that shit worked against Antonio (Esfandiari),â said Daniel in a recent âNo Gamble, No Futureâ podcast, adding: âbut that shitâs not gonna work against me.â
Hellmuth recently defeated Antonio âThe Magicianâ three times, at stakes of $50k, $100k and then $200k in their High Stakes Duel showdown.
That victory has seemingly buoyed the record-holding WSOP bracelet winner, who also defeated Doug Polk and Dan Cates in the King of the Hill heads-up challenge a couple of years ago.
It cuts no ice with Negreanu, though, who declared: âThe people within the poker community know Iâm not the best poker player in the world. Iâm not, heâs not.â
Negreanu added: âThey know ⊠the best player in the world is probably some kid who hasnât left his basement in two years because heâs grinding every single day.â
And although Daniel claims Hellmuth once told him âI invented GTO,â he hopes he can finally get through to his old buddy that the young guns are the real GTO experts.
âThis is where I want to get Phil to at some pointâŠto show some respect for this generation, because I think he disrespects them on a regular basis.â
