Daniel Negreanu has stepped up and agreed to help those in need during the COVID-19 pandemic. The Canadian offered his services to Barstool Sports founder Dave Portnoy who recently answered a challenge to help the small business owners that he professes to support.

The Barstool Fund was set up to collect donations to be directed to those businesses at risk from going under if the COVID-19 pandemic persists for much longer.

Negreanu was pulled into the charity drive by his pal Barstool Nate. Nate organised a raffle with tickets selling for $100, and when the total funds donated reaches $25,000 Negreanu will match it and give the winner a one hour poker lesson.

Dire Situation

The initial group of businesses to benefit from the Barstool Fund will be restaurants in the New York City area. First up to receive a cheque was the father of Barstool Sports producer Frankie Borrelli.

The 65-year-old business has been hit hard during 2020, and no doubt was at risk of closing their doors for good unless the situation improves. The $500,000 helping hand is an incredible gesture, but this is only one business.

Hopefully the vaccine program will improve the economic situation in the next few months and allow us all to get back to normal.
