Daniel Negreanu has confirmed that the $25k Fantasy Draft competition will return for the World Series of Poker 2022. The Canadian started the massively popular event back in 2011 but due to the Covid-19 pandemic it hasn't run since 2019.

How it All Works

No sooner had the WSOP schedule been released, Daniel Negreanu was courting interest for the draft which will take place on May 30. No location has been decided as of yet, but with this being the first ever WSOP on the Las Vegas Strip, and the Aria Casino having been used before, we’d bet the Aria is a hot favourite.

So how does it all work? For starters, it costs a whopping $25,000 to enter, so it’s definitely not for everyone. Team bosses then get $200 (theoretical) to create an eight-person team by bidding for top players in an auction.

The last decade has seen the number of teams range from 8 to 15, with former WSOP Main Event Champion Ryan Riess taking down the most recent edition for $150,000.

It’s always interesting to see the wide variety of strategies used by some of the brightest minds in poker. Some go for an even spread of talent while others like to splash out to aim for the most expensive players.

Could Daniel Negreanu even bid for himself? He does seem to enjoy putting pressure on himself and might even use it as added motivation as the World Series of Poker enters a new era.
