Daniel Negreanu has ripped into Phil Hellmuth’s tournament record ahead of their upcoming highstakes duel, claiming that the 15-times WSOP bracelet winner is far from the tournament beast he claims to be…

Negreanu followed by tweeting out Hellmuth’s SHR cashes:

- 2017 $100k One Drop 10th for $312k
- 2016 $300k SHRB 4th for $1.6 million
- 2015 $100k One Drop 6th for $696k
- 2012 $1 mill One Drop 4th for $2.6 million

That’s it. No WPT wins in 20 years Not a single top 3 in a high stakes tourney.”

Then GGPoker ambassador added: “Not a single cash in the modern era of high stakes tourneys. Not one. Phil is decent in low and mid stakes tournaments, but on the major league high roller circuit, he cannot win. He may have been a GOAT of his era, but that era is long gone.”

Negreanu recently laid Hellmuth 2-1 odds that he couldn’t beat Aria's $25k SHR tournaments, his $400k against Hellmuth’s $200k across 50 tournaments with no time limit.

With his latest shot, it’s pretty clear that Negreanu is building up the hype ahead of their highly-anticipated clash, a highstakes heads-up duel due to start just a week or so from now.

His dissing of Hellmuth’s tournament record didn’t go down so well with a number of Twitter poker fans, however, many questioning why Negreanu would feel the need to belittle Hellmuth…

“I felt sad reading this @RealKidPoker. Not Phil's record (which is insanely low volume in these fields) but you taking time out to research this & tweet it. Pretty sorry state of affairs.” - @wayneblodwell

“Why is Daniel giving Phil the same treatment Doug gave him? This poker shit is weird now.” -@TimAveragePoker

“Dude, I’m a HUGE fan of yours but wtf are you doing? Everyone has made it clear that Hellmuth is an amazing guy off the felt. Why are you cutting him down?” - @tb12isDAgoat

The Negreanu-Hellmuth feud came about after the Poker Brat expressed his views on his old buddy’s play in the recent Grudge Match against Doug Polk.

Hellmuth stated he was disappointed that Daniel had “fought fire with fire”, instead of “fighting fire with Daniel”, going on to claim his exploitative style of play was a match for modern-day GTO approach.

That prompted the following challenge from the GGPoker ambassador: “Yo @phil_hellmuth you said you watched “zero” of the match but seem to have strong opinions on the play. I’ll play you a heads up match live, online, at any stakes you feel comfortable with for as many hands as you would like. Wanna play big guy?”

This weeks’ tournament digs from Negreanu, however, weren’t matched by the Poker Brat’s replies, with Hellmuth remaining pleasant in the face of criticism.

It may take a long time for the tournament prop bet to find a winner, but the highstakes duel should be over pretty quickly, and the bragging rights may well spark another round of Twitter verbals.
