Professional poker player from Canada Matthew Bergart lost his life in Toronto during a violent home robbery. The incident occurred at a townhouse owned by a friend, who was believed to be the intended target of the theft.

As per the police, at roughly 2:25 a.m. on Thursday, officers were dispatched to a townhouse on Lake Shore Blvd. W. at Long Branch Avenue in response to a shooting incident.

Three armed robbers entered the townhome and demanded cash and valuable items. Bergart had just paid a visit to the home when the incident occurred.

Shot Multiple Times

A terrifying series of events ensued when one of the attackers shot Bergart several times after a struggle before making off with an undetermined amount of cash and goods from the business. He was rushed to a nearby hospital and sadly died from gunshot wounds. The townhouse CCTV captured the whole ordeal.

The suspects, reportedly wearing dark clothing, managed to escape the scene in a white or light-coloured sedan and have yet to be apprehended. However, the police are still investigating the incident.

Bergart was an experienced poker player who primarily focused on online games. He is known for his moniker "Mysterious Canadian," engaging in intense battles with some of the most skilled players worldwide on GGPoker. In 2019, he secured his first live tournament cash with an 825th-place finish in the WSOP Main Event, earning $18,535.

Several YouTube videos showcase Bergart's prowess in online poker, one of which highlights his impressive victory in a $20,000 pot on GGPoker barely three weeks ago.

According to a statement from his family, Bergart will be remembered as a cherished son, brother, and friend whose absence will be deeply felt by those who were fortunate enough to know him.

His unfortunate passing has created a sense of emptiness among those who held him in high regard, not just for his skill in poker but also for his compassionate and kind spirit.

Suspects Still at Large

Authorities are calling on anybody with information on the suspects to come forward to assist in bringing the perpetrators for Bergart's murder to book. At the same time, the investigation into his death is ongoing. Meanwhile, the world of poker mourns the passing of their own guy who left us much too soon at the age of 30 after a senseless act of violence.

We extend our deepest condolences to the family and friends of Matthew Bergart during these trying times.
